Truth on Fire

You may have heard about something we do here at South Cities called Truth on Fire. What is that? Truth on Fire is our theological training institute designed for our members to go deeper in study and understanding of the Bible, theology, and church history, and then apply those principles to the world around us and our own hearts. 

But it doesn’t just stop at study. The name Truth on Fire means that the goal is for all of that study to stoke our affections in order that we might better love God with all of our hearts and our neighbors as ourselves. Study for the sake of study is incomplete. We should seek a better understanding of God and his word so that it changes how we live day in and day out!

So, since this class requires some extra work outside of the classroom, this class is only for really studious people that don’t have any other life commitments, right?

No! If you are a member at South Cities (or on the way to becoming a member) then my challenge to you today is to seriously consider taking Truth on Fire this coming Fall. Yes, I’m talking to you!

True, there are assigned readings and reflection papers due before class each week. Yes, it is a two year commitment, meeting on Wednesday evenings during our normal Wednesday Connection times (child care is provided!). Yes, it will require you to exert some effort and give some time.

But we really, truly believe that the effort will be worth it for everyone who wants to know the Bible, love God, and love their neighbors! Does that sound like you? Do you want to know how to read and apply the Bible better every day? Do you want to grow in your love and worship of our holy, loving God? Do you want to love and serve your coworkers, neighbors, family, friends, and fellow church members? Then this program is for you!

So, here is my challenge. Really stop to think and pray about whether the Lord might have you set aside some time over the next couple of years to dive in with us in this program. So let’s be a people that doesn’t seek to know things just to know them. My prayer is that our heads would connect to our hearts, and that our knowledge of God would lead to real love and service as we follow Christ!
